Terbinafine is an antifungal drug for oral and topical use.

How does the medication work?
Terbinafine is an antimycotic, fungicidal drug. It has an effect on dermatophytes, yeast and molds. It is active against virtually all fungi, pathogenic to humans, but most of all - red trihofitona and pathogenic yeasts-mold, Pityriasis and filamentous forms of the genus Candida.

When Terbinafine is prescribed ?

  • Fungal infections of the skin, hair and nails, candidiasis of the skin and mucous membranes

What should I know before taking Terbinafine ?
Do not use this medication if you are allergic to Terbinafine or to any other medicines such as:

  • Allylamines

Do not take Terbinafine if any of the below conditions apply to you:

  • expressed hepatocellular and renal insufficiency
  • blood diseases
  • tumors
  • metabolic diseases
  • pathologies of limbs vessels
  • pregnancy, lactation
  • infancy (up to 2 years of age)

Before taking Terbinafine, tell your health care provider about any other medicines you take or if you have any of the following disorders:

  • elderly patients
  • liver / kidneys disorders

If you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or breastfeed, you should take Terbinafine only under a strict control of your doctor. Terbinafine belongs to a pregnancy category B meaning that this medicine is not expected to harm the unborn baby. In small amount, Terbinafine passes into the breast milk, that is why it is recommended to stop breastfeeding while on the treatment.

How to take Terbinafine:
Terbinafine is available in the forms of tablets, cream, gel, spray.

Dosage of Terbinafine is prescribed individually by physician.

Take the entire amount of Terbinafine prescribed by your doctor, even if you feel better before the end of the treatment. If you stop taking medication too early, symptoms may return.
If you missed the scheduled dose, take the medication as soon as you remember, but skip the dose if it is almost the time for the following dose. Do not take two doses at once.

What are the side effects of Terbinafine ?
Terbinafine may cause the following side effects:

  • headache
  • gastrointestinal tract: loss of appetite, indigestion, nausea, mild abdominal pain, diarrhea, flatulence
  • mild skin reactions (rash, itching, rash)
  • musculoskeletal reactions (arthralgia, myalgia)
  • Terbinafine spray, cream or gel may rarely cause skin redness, itching or burning sensation

If you experience any side effect that last long or becomes bothersome, please inform your doctor as dose adjustment or treatment discontinuation may be required.

Which are Terbinafine overdose symptoms ?
If you overdose Terbinafine, seek immediate medical attention. Overdose symptoms include: dizziness, stomach ache, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, frequent urination

Which other medicines may affect Terbinafine?
Terbinafine may interact with the following groups of drugs:

  • birth control
  • drugs that are metabolized by the system of P450 cytochrome
  • antidepressants
  • beta-blockers

How should I store Terbinafine ?
